Activity Report August 2010:
Since 1996, in 14 years and 01 months MCOR served 146,832 people.
We provide Clothing Bank & Personal Care Items at no charge to qualified low-income persons living: NORTH OF 16TH AVENUE TO LICOLN ROAD 7 EAST OF DIVISION TO PARK ROAD
In August 2010, we opened 12 days, to serve 1014 Adults or 84 contacts per day, and helped 231 Infants, or 18 each day.
Clothing Bank Service is available every 60 days. In 2010 to date, we have served 8,817 Adults.
Volunteer hours worked at the MCOR 8 Months of 2010 total 4,930 hours
The Walt Shields Infant Needs Center: is available every 30 days – for infants up to 4 years in Spokane County. To do this work we need Baby formula, cereal, food jars, shampoo, lotions, disposable diapers (New born thru #6), wet wipes, baby cribs, blankets, high chairs, strollers, car seats (as available) and folic acid for 19 young woman. So far in 2010, we served 1,913 Infants.
Household Supplies and Items: On referral, we give pots, pans, flatware, small appliances, blankets, bedding, and stuffed animals. Domestic Violence Families served 15, Families of Interfaith Hospitality 7, Home Fire Victims 11, Odyessey World Internation Services 18 and the Refuge Families 25 in 2010.
Special Programs: Back to School Supplies with Rotary # 21 help and other donors we gave 397 (K – 12 packets and Clothing) on August 16th, 18th, and 19th during open hours.
Christmas Party 2009 held Saturday December 12th for 186 children. Parents selected and wrapped gifts (Infant – 6th grade) Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 723 children received gifts.

Center Founded by Walt Shields
“2006 Washington State Citizen of the Year”

Walt Shields accepted the “2006 Washington State Citizen of the Year” award at the 2006 Washington State Realtors Convention for 10 year directorship of the Mission Community Outreach Center. He is grateful for volunteers and supporters that have enabled us to serve low-income. Walt Shields retired as Director in October 2007, we thank Walt for his work.

“In the Beginning”
After 16 years as a Philippine Missionary Pastor Irvin Winship with wife Merilyn became pastor at Mission Community Presbyterian Church for 7 years. Following were pastorates in Portales, N.M., Papago Reservation in Sells, Az. and he retired in Spokane in 1989. He joined Walt Shields, Duane Arkills and Ray Borders Mission Community Presbyterian Church members in developing the Mission Community OutReach Center. Pastor Winship wrote the by-laws, he died in 1995, but he knew the Center would open.
Walt Shields, Director, Duane Arkills and Ray Border Volunteers moved forward to insure Mission Community OutReach Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit ecumenical organization with services free and no paid staff since 1996.
